When this set was shot, Rachel had been modelling for about a year. She continued for another year or so before giving it up completely. Throughout this time she was very busy, but surprisingly very little of the material she must have shot has ever been published or posted on the Internet.
When we photograph a model we attempt to engage with her. That is we talk to her. Just small talk, and requests to do this or that. We hope to raise natural smiles and an engaged expression in this way. Particularly smiles. Rachel responded easily to this technique. But she protested, "I don't photograph well smiling." "I look better being serious." She was right too. But sometimes she had to work extra hard to keep a straight face, which caused a couple of odd expressions where she's laughing and attempting to look serious simultaneously.
